In 2017, Mathias Svold<\/a> won College Photographer of the Year<\/a> and with this prize he also won an internship at National Geographic, where he made a story about the Whanganui River in New Zealand. Now, National Geographic has published the story<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

June 28, 2018. Owhango, New Zealand. Jack Cashmore has hunted a deer in the rural, isolated area of the river. Here the people eat what they hunt and live close to nature. Jack Cashmore is working on Blue Duck Station where they do farming and operate tourism. Because of erosion Blue Duck Station have decided to turn half of their land into native bush that make the river banks stronger. Mathias Svold has travelled along the Whanganui River, which has status as a legal person with all the rights that follows. The project tells about the people and nature along the river. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The project is published online and will go on print in National Geographic Magazine in the autumn<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Earlier this year, Mathias Svold also won Photographer of the Year in Denmark with pictures from this National Geographic project and from his and Ulrik Hasemann’s final BA-project “Coastland”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
