Ertmann and Hald writes in Journalisten

In the recent edition of the trade magazine Journalisten Cathrine Ertmann and Marie Hald write about how photojournalism is valued and paid in Danish newspapers.

The background for the commenting article is Marie Hald’s prize winning story about Bonnie. Marie Hald sold the story for D.kr. 4000 to a Danish newspaper – which equals a freelance journalist’s day rate. Marie Hald has worked on the story for around a year and for the same story she was paid more than three times as much in Norway.

The two final year students argue in their article that the Danish newspapers don’t value the high quality of Danish photojournalism stories in the same way as they value journalists doing the longer projects.
