Three students win first prizes at the Danish POY

Today the winners of the Press Photography of the Year 2010 were announced at an Award Ceremony at the National Library in Copenhagen. Six of our students were among the nominated photographers – three of them won first prizes. The other three won honourable second prizes.

Sports Reportage

Sara Galbiati won first prize in the category Sports Reportage for her BA project about the ultimate Mexican wrestling – Lucha Libre. Sara finished her BA project in 2010 and also won third prize at POYi with the same story. Second prize in Sports Reportage went to another student, Jeppe Bøje Nielsen, who is currently doing his internship at Berlingske Media.

Domestic reportage

Sofie Amalie Klougart won the Domestic Reportage with a series from the summer meeting of The Danish Peoples’ Party. Sofie Amalie Klougart is currently doing her internship at the daily Information and this prize-winning story was the first reportage story she did for the newspaper. Second prize in Domestic Reportage went to Peter Helles Eriksen who is back at DSMJ after an exchange study at Pathshala, Dhaka in Bangladesh.

Open Category

Winner in the Open Category was Asbjørn Sand with a picture from The Dead Sea, where psoriasis patients lay in the sun to soothe their disease. Second place in this category also went to a student, Mette Frandsen, with her BA project about Las Vegas, made in 2010.
