Yesterday evening in Helsinki the winners of the Finnish Press Photography of the Year 2010 were released.
Two of our international students were among the winners:
Aino Salmi won first prize in the category Photo Essay with a story about the young man Rick who lives alone in his flat investegating conspiracy theories. The story is made during a magazine workshop at DSMJ. Aino Salmi is currently studying at our programme Advanced Visual Story Telling and will graudate from DSMJ this summer.
Johanna Kokkola, who graduated from DSMJ in December 2010, won honorable mention in the category Foreign Reportage with a story from Skjoldhøj Kollegiet in Aarhus. The story was made as her Visual Project at DSMJ.
Johanna Kokkola were also among five Finnish photographers who were nominated for Press Photographer of the Year 2010. In her portfolio were several pictures made during her study in Aarhus. Unfortunately, Johanna Kokkola didn’t win the category, but like the other nominated and winning photographers her pictures will be a part of the exhibition.
118 photographers took part in the Press Photos of the Year 2010 contest. Additionally, the amount of photos was the highest yet, the number at 3310 entries.
The exhibition composed of the winning pictures and the contenders is on display from the 16st of March through to the 20th of March 2011 as a projection on the outside wall of the Bio Rex movie theater in Helsinki. The exhibition is an extensive selection
of winners and runners-up, presenting around 170 photos from 56 photographers. The exhibition will also be on display as a projection in six other finnish cities: Turku, Oulu, Kotka, Kuopio, Jyväskylä and Tampere.
