Søren Pagter in the news in Iceland

Last week the winners of the Picture of the Year in Iceland were announced at a ceremony in Reykjavik.

Sigrtyggur Ari Jóhannsson wins Picture of the Year 2014 in Iceland with this picture of a young refugee on hunger strike.

Søren Pagter was the head judge of the competition and while waiting for a plane back home, Pagter wrote an article about how he saw the level and the work of the Icelandic photographers. The article was published in the Picture of the Year catalogue.

In the article Pagter encourages the Icelandic photographers to work more intimate with the stories – a lot of the pictures in the competition showed life outside in public areas or at public events. Very few pictures took the viewers inside into people’s private lifes.

Søren Pagter’s article has created some debate among the photojournalists in Iceland and yesterday the writing was the background for a longer article in the newspaper DV.

During his stay in Iceland, Søren Pagter also held a lecture for Icelandic photojournalists and journalists. The lecture, which is in English, is available online here.
