Two DMJX-projects won first prizes at the Danish POY today

This afternoon the award ceremony for the Danish POY was held at the National Library in Copenhagen and here the winners of the different categories were announced.

Seven DMJX-students were already nominated for the Danish POY. Four of them ended up winning first prizes in three different categories.

Kasper Løftgaard won first prize in the Sport Reportage category for a selection of pictures from his final BA-project. Kasper made the story about the traditional, rodeo cowboys in the spring 2015 and graduated in June 2015. At that time, Kasper also won the Scanpix prize for best photojournalistic BA-project.

One more newly graduated DMJX-student won a first prize. Michael Drost-Hansen won first prize in the Danish News Picture category for his story È45 about refugees entering Denmark by following the main E45 highway towards Sweden. Among the pictures in Michael’s series is the famous picture of a Danish policeman playing with a refugee child in the middle of the highway. Michael also graduated in June 2015, but made his prize winning story in the autumn. So even though Michael was a student in 2015, we can’t name this a DMJX-project.

The other three nominated DMJX-students will have their pictures shown at the Danish POY exhibition, which will present both the winners and the runner-ups from this year’s competition.
