Shirin Abedi has won the Inge Morath Award

DMJX alumni Shirin Abedi is the 2023 recipient of the Inge Morath Award handed out by the Magnum Foundation. Shirin Abedi receives the award based on her poject May I Have This Dance? that she started at DMJX during her Photo 1 study in the spring 2019.

With the award, Shirin Abedi receives a $7,500 production grant to support the completion of her long-term documentary project, May I Have This Dance? that she has continued to work on since her graduation from DMJX.

May I Have This Dance? is about the social change in Iran on the basis of a subculture in which dance is elementary to life. The dancers show a peaceful resistance to a patriarchal and fundamental society. By this, they represent a whole generation, who reclaims their desired future.
